Avatar Movie Sequels

Avatar is a James Cameron-founded American media brand that includes a projected run of epic science fiction movies distributed by 20th Century Fox and made by Light-storm Entertainment, as well as related merchandising.

One of the most expensive franchises ever launched was the Avatar series, with the original movie and its four sequels having a combined budget of $1 billion.

The first sequel, Avatar, which came out on December 18, 2009, is the most successful movie of all time. On December 16, 2022, The Way of Water, the second film, was made available. One week before the theatrical release of Avatar, on December 11, 2009, 20th Century Fox revealed the planned sequel series. The series was confirmed by 20th Century Fox on January 15, 2010.

The four sequels each have a complete solo plot that reaches its own conclusion, much like the first movie. The four movies are linked together by an overarching conceptual to form a lengthy, interlinked story. All of the concepts, characters, and spiritual undercurrents of the first movie, according to Cameron, were naturally carried over into the sequels.

Avatar (2009)

Avatar (2009)
The main conflict in the tale takes place on Pandora, a populated moon the size of Earth that is orbited by Polyphemus, one of the three gas giants that make up Alpha Centauri A. The Na'vi, the sentient humanoid natives of the planet Pandora, and human colonists fight for control of the planet's resources and their own survival. The title of the movie alludes to the genetically modified, remotely controlled human-Na'vi bodies that the movie's human characters utilize to communicate with the indigenous.

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Avatar: The Way of Water
The Way of Water, which takes place more than ten years after the events of the first movie, centres on the RDA's return, which forces Jake's family to travel to Pandora's water regions in an effort to protect one another and fend off a recurring threat. While the first movie was about "awe," Cameron stated in an interview that the sequel focuses more on the characters. The movie was first slated for release in December 2014, but it was repeatedly delayed until becoming available on December 16, 2022. August 2017 saw the start of production. The conclusion was in September 2020.

Avatar 3 (2024)

There will be a third movie on December 20, 2024. The third movie was supposed to focus more on the Alpha Centauri system, according to interviews conducted in the middle of 2010, but the script wasn't finished until late 2015. On September 25, 2017, Avatar 3 began filming in New Zealand with Avatar: The Way of Water, and it was finished by the end of December 2020. Although there will be two more sequels, when they are released will depend on how well the second and third movies do.

Avatar 4 (2026)

On December 18, 2026, a fourth movie is anticipated, with Shane Salerno contributing to its writing. A third of Avatar 4 has already been shot, according to Jon Landau, because of a six-year time jump in the first act, which accounts for the ageing of the kid actors. Principal photography on Avatar 4 was formally announced at the D23 Expo on September 9, 2022.

Avatar 5 (2028)

The release date for the fifth movie, which has been announced, is December 22, 2028. Pre-production has begun but filming has not yet begun.

Future

Cameron stated that he had plans for a sixth and seventh movie and would produce them if there was a demand for them in 2022.
